The Pizza Burger From Burger King in the ’80s

Burger King Pizza Burger

Let us take a moment to honor one of the great lost treasures of 1980s fast food: the Burger King Pizza Burger.

Now, the screenshot calls it the Pizza Double Cheeseburger, but I never knew it by that name. To me, it was simply the pizza burger. The timeline matches perfectly, so I am almost certain this is the one I remember. The only thing that throws me off is that I do not recall it being a double. But memory is a tricky thing, especially when mozzarella is involved.

What I do remember is this. The pizza burger did not last long, but I managed to get my hands on it a couple of times. It was exactly what it sounded like. A burger topped with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. That was the whole pitch. And honestly, what more does a kid need? Burgers plus pizza equals culinary enlightenment.

I know the timeline is right because I can picture the exact moment I ate one. It was a Saturday afternoon, and I was watching NWA Pro Wrestling. Tully Blanchard was wrestling Brad Armstrong, and for reasons only my younger self understands, I was deeply invested in that match. That episode aired in January 1987, which means the pizza burger and I crossed paths at precisely the right moment in history.

It is funny what the mind holds onto. A random wrestling match. A forgotten fast‑food experiment. A memory that has somehow fused into one. I cannot tell you whether I remember the match because of the burger or the burger because of the match. All I know is that the two are forever linked in my brain.

And that is why, all these years later, the Burger King Pizza Burger still lives rent‑free in my heart.
