In those years before I had my driver’s license and could go hang out with friends on New Year’s Eve, my plans always included finding some New Year’s Eve special on television and ringing in the new year that way. Some years it would be the Dick Clark specials, but those didn’t really appeal to me all that much. I always preferred things like the Penn & Teller countdowns and various other shows.

MTV always had fun ones, and perhaps my favorite one of them all was the 1992 special. This special had some of the hottest acts of 1991 and featured a powerhouse lineup of performances. Hosted by Cindy Crawford, it features MC Hammer, Bell Biv Devoe, Marky Mark, EMF, Naughty By Nature, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Guns n Roses! MTV wasn’t playing around with this New Year’s Eve countdown special.

So if you’re like me and can’t ever find a good New Year’s Eve countdown special that you like in this modern age, consider giving this old one a watch and ring in the new year with some of the biggest acts of my generation. It’ll take you back in time, and possibly give your new year a better start than it would by watching some modern special.
