TRN Time Machine Podcast: Summer Memories

The TRN Time Machine podcast is back! As a way to honor Jason’s podcasting legacy, we’re re-releasing classic episodes from the original Retro Network Podcast, as well as classic episodes from the early days of the Time Machine podcast. In addition, we’ll be releasing previously restricted episodes of Grocery Stories, Outtakes, and the critically acclaimed TRN After Hours podcast that until now have only been available to Patreon subscribers.

The Patreon-only library has almost 100 episodes that until now have only been heard by a few people. They are packed with so much Jason goodness that we can’t keep these episodes locked away any longer. While Jason may no longer be with us in person, he is still with us in spirit, and releasing these episodes will give everyone a chance to hear more stories and memories from Jason and help keep his memory alive.

If you’ve never done so, be sure to subscribe to the TRN Time Machine podcast in your favorite podcast app so you never miss an episode.

Here is the first release of this new round of Time Machine episodes, featuring a classing from the very early days where Jason and myself rehash old summer memories. Enjoy!

An Appalachian Christmas Carol

For this post, I’m presenting a special podcast that was presented on The Retro Network last year. This tale stars yours truly as I spin a tale of Christmas wonder that spans from the mid-80s through the early 2000’s. I hope you enjoy it.

As a special treat for all of our listeners, we present An Appalachian Christmas Carol. It’s a tale of Christmas wonder set in the Appalachians and told as only Mickey could tell it. Also at the heart of the story is Stevie the Tyrant, whom you probably remember hearing Mickey tell tales about through the years on various TRN podcasts. Make this a part of your Christmas season and let Mickey’s tale warm your heart and make you a believer in Santa Claus.

TRN Drive-In Podcast: Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

Planes, Trains, & Automobiles is the defacto movie about Thanksgiving in a lot of people’s minds, and Jason (rd80s on Twitter) and I don’t really disagree. Back in our very first episode of the TRN Drive-In podcast, we decided to tackle the Thanksgiving classic in our unique review style.

Starring Steve Martin as Neal Page, John Candy as Del Griffith, and written and directed by the late great John Hughes, this 1987 film is a seasonal must-watch for many movie lovers. Mickey takes the lead for the review by supplying the facts, what-ifs, some unique award nominations, and just an all-around good time as we discuss the movie in detail. Favorite scenes, supporting actors, quotes, and even a push to #ReleaseTheHughesCut are featured during the podcast.

We asked our listeners to provide feedback on Planes Trains and Automobiles and we’ll be reading back your takes as we wrap the review.

If you like what you hear in this podcast, consider checking out all of the other movies that we’ve reviewed on the show. You can find the full podcast feed on your podcast app of choice, or you can visit the podcast page and listen online here.

TRN Time Machine Podcast: Foods We Miss

The TRN Time Machine podcast is hosted by myself and Jason Gross as part of The Retro Network. So I’m presenting them here for a new audience to discover and enjoy.

In this episode, get ready to bounce around the decades as we time jump looking at some Foods We Miss! We’ll be covering square pizzas at Little Caesar’s, pop culture pasta from Chef Boyardee, cereal, patty melts at McDonald’s, and the Tic Tac’s rival Dynamints just to name a few. Snacks, candy, beverages, and more are covered in this delicious episode.

Memory Jogger Podcast: The Dukes of Hazzard

In this Memory Jogger Mystery episode, Jason and Wyatt randomly choose from a group of topics (without any prior show notes) and see how much they can remember. After sharing their experience, they can then cheat by using the Google machine to find anything they might have missed from memory.

Leading off the show this week is the hosts’ reaction to their first voicemail regarding their previous topic of compact discs.

The random topic chosen during the show is The Dukes of Hazzard! Jason and Wyatt jog their memories of watching the hit TV show as kids, what toys they had, and overall thoughts on the series that aired for 7 seasons. Superfan Wyatt as tells about obtaining autographs of the stars while visiting Cooter’s Last Stand and the hosts remember their trip to Covington, GA in search of filming locations for the show.
