The original 1993 hit is still one of my favorite movies from the early ’90s. When I saw the film footage on an episode of WCW Saturday Night, I knew it was a movie I wanted to see. Back then, my parents didn’t really go to the movies, so I had to wait until it hit PPV or HBO to see it. Back in those days, we had a cable descrambler and could watch all of the pay channels for free.
I must have watched Cliffhanger a dozen times when it first hit cable and enjoyed every viewing of it. Even today, I watch it at least once a year, and sometimes two. I’m also a fan of Stallone’s work in these later stages of his career. Rambo: Last Blood was good, the escape movie with him and Arnold surprised me with how good it was, and I’ve been on board with Tulsa King since it started.
The news article says there are no details as to the plot of this sequel, but I have confidence that it will be worth the time to watch it, as again, Stallone is putting out good stuff in the last few years. With a premise like Cliffhanger, I imagine he can pull off another performance to make this one at least watchable. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it if for no other reason than nostalgia, as I’m sure it will transport me back to 1993 which is one of my favorite years to look back on. Heck, I even just wrote about how 1993 is an underappreciated year in wrestling history.
Count me in on seeing this one when it comes out.
