Well, we finally got around to watching the Season 3 finale of Riverdale last night, and I was a little underwhelmed. The reveal of Chic as the Gargoyle King, with Penelope Blossom as the mastermind behind the whole thing both just seemed to come out of left field.
I think Chic was inserted into the role for perceived shock value, but really, he added nothing to the season-long story. It was just, “Hey, Chic has been the Gargoyle King!”, without any real substance behind it. Penelope’s logic for why she was orchestrating the whole thing was paper thin as well. These reveals reminded me a lot of the show Lost. Lost would run these long storyline and build up the anticipation, but then let you down with less-than-stellar reveals.
The good that came out of the episode though included the awesomely creepy scene at the end where Cheryl has the corpse of her dead brother Jason in her house. I hope that leads to many overly creepy scenes next season as her fragile mind really starts to go.
I think it’s a bit of a stretch for Betty’s brother Charles to show up out of the blue, claim to be an FBI agent, and reveal that Alice Cooper was working for them undercover at The Farm this whole time. That is a little far-fetched, but I’ll wait to see how it plays out before commenting more on it.
