I Got Some New Toys This Week!

While that title wouldn’t need an exclamation point if a lot of you were writing this, it does when I write it. That’s because I haven’t purchased new toys off the shelf in something close to 16 years.

I used to be an avid toy collector in the late ’90s and early ’00s, but once I found out I was going to be a Dad, that changed. I kept all of my toys on display in the spare room we had…the room that would become the nursery…so I had to empty that room. And since babies cost a lot of money, I needed to liquidate my collection to put money in my pocket. And thus ended my toy buying ways.

In the grand scheme of things, that was a small sacrifice. But now, all these years later, I’ve got the itch again, so the other day I scratched it. This first foray back into toy buying wasn’t a big one. More like just dipping my toes in the water, but I’m excited nonetheless, and just wanted to take a minute to show off what I picked up.

These Masters of the Universe Megaconstrux figures are pretty nifty. Fully articulated minifigures is something I didn’t think would come along in my lifetime, but there they are. This was the only set they had or I would have likely gotten more. And it was only after I got home that I noticed He-Man had two left legs. Oh well, I still played with them. I’ll put some pictures of that up later.

Micro Machines returned recently, and since they are in my top ten toys of all-time, I pulled the trigger on this Fire and Rescue set. When I was a kid, my Dad was a fireman, so I’ve always chosen fire trucks over other vehicles on display. The construction set was nice, but nothing tops fire engines when I’m buying cars.

Oh Hot Wheels. How I’ve missed thee. Back in my collecting days, I sought out and bought EVERY new one that came out each year. I don’t see myself getting back into them to that extent, but I did see a few new ones that caught my eye.

The TMNT van was a no brainer, as was the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots car. And when I saw this years Christmas release, it was an easy decision to pick it up too.

Well that was the haul. Not a lot, but man I’ve felt great since picking these up the other day. I’d say it’s fairly certain that I’ll continue picking stuff up here and there.

Oh, and keep your eye out next week for another Incoming post. I’ve got some old Happy Meal boxes I picked up on ebay on their way, and I think you might enjoy seeing some of them.
