I’m hoping you had a great Christmas, and got some cool stuff. I certainly did, and we’re going to go through all the cool stuff here.
We had a pretty low-key Christmas this year. Usually we go to my wife’s family’s party on Christmas Eve, and receive guests at our place on Christmas day. There was none of that this year. Instead, my little family of four just stayed home and enjoyed each other’s company, ate lots of food that was bad for us, and were just generally lazy. I did get some reading in though, as I signed up for marvel Unlimited and am starting at the dawn of the modern Marvel Universe…reading from the start of the Silver Age forward. It’s going to take a while.
But let’s get into the presents…
Masters of the Universe Origin Figures!
In my Merry Christmas message on Christmas Eve, I mentioned how I hoped I’d find some of these figures under the tree. Well the wife didn’t disappoint. I found He-Man, Man-at-Arms, Skeletor, and Beast Man waiting for me on Christmas morning. At some point, I’ll post some pictures I took while playing with them out in the fresh snow.
Master of the Universe Megaconstrux Collector’s Set!
It was like 1983 all over again on Christmas morning, because I just kept finding more and more He-Man figures under the tree. I even told my wife as much. All the toys I got added up to be one of the better Christmas mornings I can remember.
Masters of the Universe Megaconstrux Battle Cat vs. Roton Set!
Ditto what I said above about getting all of the cool Masters toys for Christmas. For me, the Roton wasn’t even the draw of this set. Adding Battle Army He-Man, Battle Cat, and Mer-Man to my collection got me really excited.
Mr. Mystery Invisible Ink Secret Agent Spy & Game Book!
Finding this under the tree was a real treat. I didn’t even know these things were still in production. But on Christmas morning, there it was under the tree. My mom used to get these things for me when we had long road trips to take. I’d go through one in less than a day back then. Now though, I think I’ll take my time and savor this one a little while.
Johnny Cash on Vinyl!
My youngest knows what I like, and the Man in Black is it. I still haven’t gotten to open this and take it for a test run yet, but I will. I will.
Newspaper Extra Edition from 9/11!
The wife knows I love historical stuff, and found this copy of our local paper’s Extra Edition from the afternoon of 9/11. This thing is a true time capsule.
Original Win, Lose, or Draw Board Game!
Jason, of Rediscover the 80s and The Retro Network fame knows me pretty well, and sent me this complete Win, Lose, or Draw, board game! I’ve mentioned several times on The Retro Network Podcast how much I enjoyed the television version of this, and he’s a good listener, so I found this under the tree on Christmas morning.
Autographed Photo of Dale Earnhardt!!!!!
I just mentioned how Jason is a good active listener…well he knows what I like and knocked it out of the park with this one! Dale Earnhardt was always my favorite driver on the NASCAR circuit, yet I never had an autographed item until now. I can’t even really express my gratitude in words. And look at how badd ass the man looks wearing that shirt. He was the shit.
So I was one of the lucky ones. I know this year has been hard on a lot of people in a lot of ways, and Christmas was probably no different. I was truly blessed with all this trivial stuff, but it certainly brightened my mood and spirits after such a down year.
