Retro Rambler’s Weekly Wrap Up for Aug 25

Well another week has come and gone in the world of the Retro Rambler, and with it came some new experiences, and a few old ones as well.  First off, as I guess you can tell, Retro Ramblings is back up and running.  Hopefully, I can keep it on a regular basis again.  As for the new experiences, I got to enjoy my first eclipse this week like almost everyone else.  However, I do remember while in kindergarten all the way back in 1984, we were taken out on the playground to watch an eclipse of some kind.  I done a little research, and found this Wikipedia article about the annular eclipse of 1984.  So now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

One more bit from this week…we took our daughters out to eat at Pizza Hut before watching the eclipse on Monday, and I still get depressed every time I go into a Pizza Hut, because it’s just not the experience it used to be in the 80’s and early 90’s.  It got me to thinking and reflecting on how much it’s changed, so watch for an article about that sometime next week.

Before I get to the links this week, let me get a couple of plugs out of the way.  First off, my latest contribution at The Retroist went live on Monday, and features me looking back at some great toys in, Five Fun Matchbox Toys From Back in the Day.  Show me and The Retroist both some love by checking it out, and leave us a comment with your favorite Matchbox toy from back in the day.

The Retro Revival Blog Challenge will be returning starting next week, so if you are interested in participating, check back on Monday for the details for the first week’s topic!

I’ve added 30 new headers to the site, that’s right…30, so if you are interested in that sort of thing, keep refreshing the page to check them all out.  There’s a lot of retro goodness in all of them.

If you check out my author page here at Retro Ramblings, or over at The Retroist, or you see my new profile picture on Twitter and Facebook, you may ask yourself, where did he get that?  Well the cool Simpsons style rendering of your very own Retro Rambler came from a fantastic artist over on Fiverr named Sophia.  She can do one for you too for just five bucks, AND she gets it done and sent to you within 24 hours!  Now that’s service.  Check her out if you’re looking for a unique new avatar or profile picture.

With that, it’s time for the links!

For those of you who have been living under a rock, and don’t know what this is, this is the post I do each week highlighting the awesome retro themed content I’ve come across on the web in the last week.  There is always a lot of fun retro content that others are creating, and I like to show them love and recognition here for the hard work they put into their offerings that we all enjoy so much.
