Pop-Tarts were always best when eaten in the morning while waiting for the school bus to arrive. If you’re too old to recreate those conditions in the year 2022, you can at least enjoy one of the classic flavors from your childhood. Pop-Tarts is officially reviving the Frosted Grape flavor after removing it from its permanent lineup in the 2000s.
Grape was introduced as one of the brand’s original frosted flavors way back in 1967. Though it never reached the same sales levels as the other fruity varieties like Strawberry, Frosted Grape achieved it’s peak popularity in the 1990s. Following the Y2K era, the flavor disappeared from store shelves, only to reappear on a limited-edition basis from 2014 to 2017.
People who grew up eating the toaster pastries are adults today, and many of them still crave the discontinued item. Hoping to capitalize on Millenial and Gen Z nostalgia, Pop-Tarts is bringing back Frosted Grape for good. The flavor is coming to Walmart this month, and in May it will be available from retailers nationwide.
I’ve never had the pleasure of trying this flavor, but it definitely sounds like it would be my jam. =)
The first Pop-Tart I ever remember having was unfrosted blueberry. The second was Frosted Grape. I can remember the circumstance because my mom had gotten a job for the first time in my life, and on her first day at work, I went to spend the day at my cousin’s house, and she packed the box of the grape Pop-Tars for us to enjoy for breakfast. It was a big day for me when I was young, so the memory of the Pop-Tarts sticks out for me.
